and Leadership Academy (PSYMLA) is committed to providing students
the necessary strategies for achieving success in all areas of life. Wil
Cason, the Group Facilitator and resident of Fairfield, is a nationally
recognized speaker and a leading expert in the new motivational movie
Pass It On. PSYMLA focuses on helping students develop and achieve
higher academic and personal goals.

The Youth Mentorship and Leadership Academy is a pilot summer educational
and enrichment seminar series that focuses on the following areas:

Positive Steps Youth Mentorship and Leadership Academy, featuring
PASS IT ON, focuses on time-tested success strategies that are featured
in the upcoming film PASS IT ON. Students will be exposed to a 3-day
intensified session where they learn in a workshop environment
how to optimize their passion and natural talent to maximize
their potential.

24-hour Motivation shirts. Before
the first session there will be a one-day general assembly, pre-meeting
with youth and parents/guardian. As a post-evaluation session
there will be a one on one meeting with student and parent. Students
can participate in a monthly (Sept. – June) Mentorship and Leadership
conference calls hosted by Wil Cason.
Why the combination of mentoring and leadership?
Mentoring and leadership provide guidance, knowledge, experience
in a specific area of life, and is a proven way to help students
excel. Our seminar model helps students recognize the need for
leadership, mentorship and service. We focus on problem solving,
creative thinking, visualization, and implementing action plans.
As mentors and coaches, we would like students to understanding
the importance of creating powerful networks with knowledgeable individuals.
The Target Population
The Positive Steps Youth Mentorship and Leadership Academy, featuring
PASS IT ON will serve underprivileged high school students who are experiencing
academic challenges or displaying high-risk behaviors. We will
expose students to positive role models and provide proven strategies
for leadership and success.
Our Focus
Our focus is to maximize the potential of students to develop a higher
level of self confidence and become global leaders, using the model of
Pass It On along with the Youth Leadership Success Manual developed by
Positive Steps Consulting. The motivational film Pass It On shows
the importance of how leadership, mentoring, and positive actions lead
to success. Our commitment is to make a positive impact in the
lives of students mentally, socially, and professionally.
The Rationale
There is a tremendous need for high school students to develop effective
interpersonal and leadership skills. More
than 80% of success in the workplace is based on interpersonal skills. When students develop
competent communication, teambuilding, and project management skills,
they are more likely to thrive academically and personally. Research
has proven that three primary components are necessary to impact the
lives of students; clear awareness of who they are, positive and caring
adult role models, and resources and strategies for continuous improvement.
